As part of the Balkans project, ATCO Frontec provided the extension of Canada’s Department of National Defence’s (DND) National Command and Control Information Systems from Canada to personnel located at the various peacekeeping camps within Bosnia. In March 2002, ATCO Frontec received a one-year extension to the contract - which ended in September 2003. Approximately 500 staff supported five main peacekeeping camps and nearly 1,200 Canadian peacekeepers.
In addition, ATCO Frontec was responsible for the Communications Information Systems (CIS) organization in Bosnia consisted of System Administrators, IT, Satellite and Telecommunication Technicians, Help Desk and Switchboard Operators and CIS Planners.
ATCO Frontec provided the operation and maintenance of a number of communication devices such as satellite ground terminal equipment, telephone and Private Branch Exchange equipment, hand-held and vehicle radio systems, computers, servers, printers, and voice and data circuits. Network management responsibilities included the Canadian Defence Wide-Area Network and other classified systems. These systems and equipment supported the Canadian military’s command and control in Bosnia.
