Northern Operations

  
 

ATCO Frontec holds contracts to provide terminal and ramp security, groundside and airside maintenance, airfield electrical maintenance, snow clearing, and mechanical maintenance of all airport vehicles, boilers, furnaces and general building maintenance at the Iqaluit and Eureka airports in Nunavut. In addition, we also serve a consolidated support services contract to Canadian North airlines for ground handling, pick-up and delivery, counter and warehouse services in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and in Nunavut, Iqaluit.

Specific ground handling services in Yellowknife include:

  • Cargo and baggage loading and unloading
  • Lavatory services
  • De-icing
  • Marshalling aircraft
  • Warehousing (freight management and facility cleaning) 
  • Pick-up and Delivery Service

In April 2004, push back service was added to the contract at Yellowknife airport. In Dec 2002, ATCO Frontec was also awarded a security contract for the Yellowknife airport.

Services provide in Iqaluit and Eureka include:

ATCO Frontec also has a contract with the Atmospheric Environment Services for upper air weather balloon release. We are responsible for the upper atmospheric release of balloons for the Atmospheric Environment Service Branch. Our people in Iqaluit observe, record, encode and transmit Aerological observations twice a day and are responsible for Meteorological services such as maintenance of all meteorological equipment supplied to the station.
